Born and raised in the lush Laguna pastures of Santa Rosa in Sonoma County, California we at Blue Ox Ranch are the 7th and 8th generation of Portuguese ranchers to bring our family's pride and passion of hand raising regenerative, beneficial and incredibly delicious food directly from the ranch to your table.
We raise our animals by hand, using methods taught to us by our grandfather, Jose Matos. By maintaining a small herd, utilizing food manufacturing byproducts, growing and harvesting our pastures for hay and silage and minimizing all off-site inputs we are able to honor our animals with the life they love and provide our community with incredibly decadent, tender and flavorful products directly from our ranch.
We strive to be incredibly local. All our beef is born on our ranch or purchased within a 16 mile radius. All grazing pastures contracted throughout our cattle's lifetime, food manufacturing by product collection and feeding, compost, hay harvest and beef harvest and processing also happens within a 16 mile radius of our ranch in the heart of Laguna de Santa Rosa.

GRAZING + PASTURE MANAGEMENTContact
Our handraised cattle are calm and docile, making them excellent candidates for small acerage seasonal "backyard" grazing opportunities while their scale and enthusiasm are also appreciated on larger pastures, ranches and farms. Our miniature beef herd has been developed for maximum efficiency and minimal environmental impact on pastures and fields. Contact us to discuss the potential benefit of our Heritage Raised practices for your soil.
FOOD MANUFACTURING BYPRODUCT DIVERSIONContact
In an effort to minimize the impact cattle (a non-native species to North America) have on our native pastures, soil and land we utilize local food manufacturing by products and waste as feed for our cattle. We feed an estimated 10,000 to 16,000 pounds of fresh vegetables, fruits, grains and whey to our cattle daily. If you are a brewer, food manufacturer or farmer with fresh (not spoiled) food waste within our 16 mile on demand pick up radius, please contact us below. (Bonus points and complementary tastings for pairing + partnering opportunities).
